Minister of Tourism and Sports Nikolina Brnjac today handed out contracts for co-financing three major international sports events, which will be held this – the international cycling race CRO Race, scheduled to take place from 1 to 6 October 2024, and from 30 September to 5 October 2025, the Handball World Championship to be held from 15 January to 2 February 2025, and the Wrestling World Championship to be held from 13 to 17 September 2025. The Government of the Republic of Croatia will co-finance these events in the total amount of 12.6 million euros.
“By supporting the organization of major international sports competitions, we contribute to the affirmation and popularization of sports in Croatia, as well as strengthening the international reputation of our country. Since the beginning of our mandate, the Government has recognized the importance of such competitions and has increased financial resources for this purpose every year. So far, we have supported more than 140 major events with over 40 million euros. Thanks to these events, Croatia is already recognized worldwide as a sports destination and has become an indispensable stop for the best athletes in the world,” said Minister Nikolina Brnjac.
At today’s contract award ceremony, representatives from the Croatian Handball Federation were present, including President Tomislav Grahovac and Secretary General Damir Poljak, as well as from the Croatian Wrestling Federation, President Vladimir Bregović. Also in attendance were the organizers of the Cro Race cycling race, Vladimir Miholjević and Luka Mišović.
